Arkansas Freedom of Information Act
The “Arkansas Freedom of Information Act” (FOIA) requires each state agency, board, and commission to make certain information available to the public, including the agency’s operations, records maintained, and specific rules, procedures, and policies adopted by the agency. The necessary information for the Department of Health (ADH) is available on this website. Many records might not be accessible for public inspection under the FOIA because they are exempt from disclosure under that Act or other state or federal laws.
- The FOIA lets the public (“citizens”) review and get copies of government agency records unless the law exempts them.
- Medical records and vital records are not available for release under the FOIA.
- There are several other exemptions to the FOIA.
- The law also requires that meetings of “governing bodies” be open to the public.
