Academic Detailing

The Arkansas Department of Health is partnering with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the Center for Implementation Research within the UAMS College of Pharmacy to provide free outreach education for healthcare providers across Arkansas.

What Is Academic Detailing? Academic Detailing is a nationally supported initiative where trained pharmacists or other healthcare professionals offer one-on-one education to providers. These sessions focus on evidence-based approaches to managing chronic pain and substance use disorders, including:

  • The latest national guidelines for safe opioid prescribing
  • Alternatives to opioids for treating chronic pain
  • Strategies for safely tapering opioids
  • Evidence-based screening and referral practices for substance misuse
  • FDA-approved medications for substance use disorders

How It Works

This free service typically takes 10–15 minutes. Academic detailers can meet with you virtually or in person—at your workplace, and even outside regular office hours. Group presentations are also available upon request.

Get Involved

The Arkansas Department of Health encourages providers to take advantage of this free educational service to help improve patient care across the state. While outreach will be conducted statewide, interested providers are welcome to reach out directly:

Measles Update: Get The Latest Measles Information Here

Measles, or rubeola, is a highly contagious, acute viral infectious disease caused by the measles virus. Some people think of measles as just a rash and fever that clears up in a few days; however, measles can cause serious health complications, especially in children younger than 5-years-old.

The best protection against measles is the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The MMR vaccine provides long-lasting protection against all strains of measles.
