Medical Waste Program

Our Purpose

The Arkansas Department of Health has a broad overview of environmental conditions and hazards that affect the citizens of Arkansas. Through our Medical Waste program, the agency regulates all aspects of commercial medical waste management (i.e., accumulation, separation, storage, transportation, treatment, and disposal) with respect to health care-related facilities, commercial medical waste transporters, and commercial medical waste. You will find more information about the Medical Waste program in the documentation listed below.

Measles Update: Get The Latest Measles Information Here

Measles, or rubeola, is a highly contagious, acute viral infectious disease caused by the measles virus. Some people think of measles as just a rash and fever that clears up in a few days; however, measles can cause serious health complications, especially in children younger than 5-years-old.

The best protection against measles is the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The MMR vaccine provides long-lasting protection against all strains of measles.
