Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are infections people get while they are receiving health care for another condition. HAIs can happen in any healthcare facility, including hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, end-stage renal disease facilities, and long-term care facilities. HAIs can be caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, or other less common pathogens.
HAIs are a significant cause of illness and death — and they can have devastating emotional, financial, and medical consequences. At any given time, about 1 in 25 inpatients have an infection related to hospital care. These infections lead to the loss of tens of thousands of lives and cost the U.S. healthcare system billions of dollars each year.
Antimicrobial stewardship works in tandem with HAI prevention as it promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials, improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
Arkansas Department of Health has partnered with healthcare professionals and experts in the field to bring a variety of topics to further the goal of HAI prevention. The attached list of webinars that are an hour or less in length provides a total of 20 free CE credits for physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and others.
The list of online antimicrobial stewardship education with free CE credit is on the grid below.
