Who is a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor?
She is a mom just like you! She is a mom from your community who breastfed her own baby. She knows what it is like to be a new mother! And she will be there to answer your questions and offer you her support. Your Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is your “breast friend!”
How can a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor help me?
Your Breastfeeding Peer Counselor can:
- Give you the information you need to get off to a good start.
- Show you how to hold a breastfeeding baby.
- Listen to your concerns.
- Help you plan how breastfeeding can continue to work when you return to work or school.
- Be there for you when things don’t go as you planned.
How do I receive more information about becoming a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor for the AR WIC Program?
A Breastfeeding Peer Counselor for the AR WIC program must have breastfed for at least six months and have received WIC services. She must love breastfeeding and be willing to share that love with other mothers.
