The ADH Strategic Plan represents a roadmap aimed at addressing important public health challenges and promoting well-being across the state of Arkansas. The Plan outlines the roles, priorities, and direction of the ADH over the next five years. Grounded in stakeholder input, and thoughtful planning, the ADH Strategic Plan outlines comprehensive strategies to tackle five key health issues represented by the icons below. The Performance and Evaluation Services Office (PESO) led a structured process to develop the ADH Strategic Plan. ASBN – Diabetic Educator

Diabetic Educator In compliance with the Diabetic Self Management Act of 1997 (ACA§23-79-601 et seq.) the Arkansas State Board of Nursing developed a process to certify RNs who provide education in the management of Diabetes. This certification allows for insurance reimbursement for the education. Established by the Arkansas Legislature in 1913 to safeguard the life and health of its citizens, the Arkansas State Board of Nursing (ASBN) achieves its mission by developing standards for safe nursing care, approval of nursing schools and regulating licenses to practice nursing. In addition to the Nurse Practice Act and Rules, there are position statements and guidelines for nurses to follow. The ASBN is responsible for enforcing these laws and rules pertaining to the regulation of nurses, nursing education and nursing practice. Arkansas Department of Health partners with Arkansas Foodbank Network to provide oral health kits

(Little Rock, Ark.) – The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) Office of Oral Health is partnering with the Arkansas Foodbank Network to provide more than 5,000 oral health kits to Arkansans in need. The oral health kits, which include toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss, will be available to the Foodbank’s member organizations beginning this fall. “Oral health and proper nutrition are closely linked,” said Dr. Rachel Sizemore, ADH Director of the Office of Oral Health. “At the ADH Office of Oral Health, our priority is to help Arkansans take care of the teeth needed to digest healthy foods.” According to America’s Health Rankings 2022 Annual Report, Arkansas ranks last in the

Arkansas Clinical Transformation (ACT) Collaborative

The ACT Program Arkansas has some of the highest prevalence rates for chronic diseases in the nation, such as hypertension at 58.4%, hyperlipidemia at 36.4%, ischemic heart disease at 30.3%, and diabetes mellitus at 25.5%.1 In efforts to mitigate these burdens of disease, the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) operates the Arkansas Clinical Transformation (ACT) program, a quality improvement (QI) intervention to help primary care clinics improve chronic disease management. Collaborative program partners include health care clinics, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), QI consultants, and subject matter experts who work collectively to improve the delivery of care, outcomes, and quality of life for chronic disease patients. Central Arkansas Community Flu Clinics This Week

Little Rock, Ark.–The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) will offer flu vaccinations at the following community flu clinics in central Arkansas: Vaccines will be provided at no charge. People should bring their insurance cards to the flu vaccine clinic. If they do not have insurance or if their insurance does not cover flu shots, the vaccine will still be available at no charge. These clinics are a part of ADH’s yearly mass flu vaccine clinic effort, which involves vaccine clinics in every county. Information about clinics in other counties can be found here. (Little Rock, Ark.) – The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) will be providing flu vaccines across the state in preparation for the 2022-2023 flu season starting Monday, September 26. Each county health unit in Arkansas will be hosting a community flu vaccine clinic, typically a day-long event when the health unit and numerous community volunteers come together to provide flu vaccine to as many people as possible. The shot is available at no charge. People should bring their insurance cards with them to the flu vaccine clinic.
