2026 Town Hall Trainings
The Arkansas State Board of Nursing (ASBN) will host FREE monthly Town Hall Trainings throughout 2026 to engage nursing education programs and provide timely updates. These one-hour sessions, led by ASBN staff, are designed specifically for nursing programs and will focus on stakeholder feedback, guidance, and discussion of current issues impacting nursing education. Trainings are held on the second Friday of each month (unless otherwise noted) and begin at 10:00 a.m. CST. Sessions will be delivered live via Microsoft Teams. For those unable to join live, recordings will be available on the Arkansas State Board of Nursing – YouTube Channel following each session. 2026 Schedule of Topics:
- January: Term Talk: Understanding ASBN Vocabulary. The training will focus on common misunderstood terms and show where to look for definitions on how ASBN defines a topic/term.
- February: Scrubs to Syllabi: New Faculty Orientation. This training will be for new faculty/adjuncts (or those needing a refresher) learning how to become an effective educator. Any new faculty hired in 2025 or later should attend. Topics covered will include understanding how the Educational Standards are weaved into the nursing curriculum. Tips will be given for new faculty coming from practice into higher education, the teaching scope of practice, and teaching role differentiation between PN and RN clinicals.
- March: Program Playbook: Steps, Standards, and Survival Tips for Success. This training will include several topics: (1) Information on developing a new pre-licensure program in the future. We will review the steps to take, a timeline, the approval process, and tips for starting off strong; (2) Strategies for students and faculty retention; and (3) Artificial Intelligence (AI) use in nursing education.
- April: Standards Made Simple: What the ASBN Really Want. This training will focus on completing reports required by ASBN and show attendees how to begin using the new Google Shared Drive to submit all program documents.
- May: Charting Success: Simulation Use and Mapping the Systematic Evaluation Plan to ASBN Educational Standards. This training will focus on how to incorporate simulation into curriculum, following the Educational Standards. In addition, the training will explore ways programs can create/revise the program’s systematic evaluation plan to address ALL Educational Standards.
- June: Docs that Rock: Documenting Compliance with Educational Standards. This training is for everyone and will focus on what documentation is needed to prove compliance with meeting Educational Standards.
- July: Compass and Clipboard: New Director Orientation. This training will be for new directors (or those needing a refresher)and will focus on understanding the director role, responsibilities, and requirements to direct the nursing program(s)according to the Educational Standards. Any new director hired in 2025 or later should attend.
- August: Regulation 101: Who is the ASBN? This training is for everyone who may have questions about what the Licensing and Education Department does. An overview of the ASBN will be provided before deep diving into the job specifics of the department. In addition, this training will define Board composition and how to be eligible for Committee and Board appointments.
- September: Rebuilding Muscle: Building a Strong NCLEX Pass-Rate. This training is for any program that wants to improve NCLEX pass rates. Information will be shared regarding how to dissect the program to determine where (if any) weakness exists.
- October: Design It. Align It. Test It.: NCLEX®-Ready Nursing Curriculum. This training will focus on building curriculum to meet program outcomes and the NCLEX Test Plan. Tips on test writing will be discussed, exploring different NGN item types.
- November: NCLEX® and Beyond: Testing, Scheduling, Accommodations, and Life After Licensure. This training will focus on how faculty/directors can help students complete their application, schedule their NCLEX, and what to expect after licensure. Tips will be given for faculty on how to teach students what is expected of them after licensure (continuing education requirements, the AR Nurse Practice Act, renewals, name/address changes, etc.)
- December: Communicate to Educate: Strengthening Faculty and Student Relationships. This training will focus on how to communicate (verbal, nonverbal, and written) with colleagues and students effectively and professionally. The different “color personalities” will be reviewed along with strategies on how to become self-aware of any bias that may impact interactions.
